Flying Club's Social Activities IN all forms of flying there's a healthy social scene - as you'd expect when people share a common passion. And The Scottish Flying Club is no different! From a round of award-winning Strathaven Ale bought in the Weavers in Strathaven by a student after his first solo to a mass gatherings of hundreds of flyers in the Isle of Wight, there's something for everyone. The main social events are regular fly-ins organised all over country. There's one on somewhere most weekends from Easter until October. Some, like the Connel fly-in, are now famous for their bad weather! We also hold fly-ins at Strathaven Airfield. Our first, in 2006, was held on the weekend of the annual Strathaven Balloon Festival. The balloonists flew from the town park on the Friday and Saturday and - after a wet and windy start - we had radio-controlled model aircraft and power kites flying at the airfield followed by some microlights. And in the winter months there are regular evening meetings including behind-the-scenes visits to Glasgow Airport's Air Traffic Control unit. |
