Flight training costs
WE mention costs throughout the site, but thought it good to put a summary on one page. At Microlight Scotland we charge £95 per flying hour for lessons at Strathaven Airfield. There are no charges for pre-flight or post-flight briefings, instruction notes or VAT. Flying membership of the The Scottish Flying Club is £200 a year. Students must become full members after their third lesson. Membership includes textbook, logbook and all landing fees. Ground school classes for written exams or radio licences are £25 per hour. Written exam fees are £25 per paper. GFT and radio licence fees are by arrangement with the examiner. The current CAA fee to issue your licence is £136. A typical student taking 35 hours of flight training to prepare for their licence test will spend £3,325 on training, £200 on club membership, £125 on written exams, £149 for the licence application and around £150 for their GFT. That makes a total of £3,935. Trial lessons are £79 for the One Hour Microlight Experience and £149 for the Advanced Microlight Experience. Long after the cost is forgotten, the reward of gaining your pilot's wings will be treasured. |
